Commerce-UI Receives Shopify Build Award for Best Shopify Liquid Build

We are proud to share that Commerce-UI has received a 2026 Shopify Build Award for our work on Lupine Lights in the category “Best Shopify Liquid Build.”

The Award

The Shopify Build Awards recognize the partners and agencies building the most technically ambitious commerce experiences on Shopify. Winning in the Liquid category means a lot to us. It says the work holds up not just as a storefront, but as engineering.

This is our second Build Award. In 2024 we won for our work on Nour Hammour, in the category “Best Custom Hydrogen Storefront.” You can read about that here. As far as we know, that makes Commerce-UI the only agency in the world to have won two Shopify Build Awards.

A brand that deserved a better platform

Lupine Lights has spent more than thirty-five years building lighting systems for bikers, climbers, and rescue teams. The hardware is trusted in the kind of darkness most people never experience. The digital experience did not reflect that same engineering.

When Benedikt Böhm, Lupine's CEO, came to us, the brief was clear. Rebuild the direct-to-consumer experience from the ground up, unify B2B and B2C operations, and prepare the platform for a full rebrand. What makes this a Liquid award is how much of it we delivered without reaching for third-party apps.

Shopify Liquid is often associated with themes used by thousands of brands, where you don't get an exciting, bespoke experience. With this project we wanted to push back on that narrative. We designed a genuinely unique interface with complex features, a product configurator, shoppable stories, and comparison modes, all built on native Shopify. It shows clearly that Liquid can be very powerful for design-driven brands that want full control of their storefront.

What we delivered

The build covered a full migration and a set of custom systems, almost all of it running on native Shopify:

  • Full migration from Shopware 6.0 to Shopify Plus: We consolidated two separate domains and roughly 5,500 redirects into one unified storefront, preserving SEO through the move.
  • A Shopify-native product configurator: Built entirely with Metaobjects, no third-party apps. Roughly ten legacy products now live as a single configurable product, which cleared years of catalog bloat.
  • Complete B2B architecture: Automated onboarding, account lifecycle management, and dynamic pricing across more than fifteen customer groups, all powered by Shopify Flow.
  • A design system built around darkness and light: Including the “Shine On” toggle, which lets customers compare real illumination scenarios side by side on the product listing page.
  • StVZO compliance logic for German addresses: With automatic exceptions for resellers who ship internationally or off-road.
  • Strong Core Web Vitals across the board: Especially on mobile, where Lupine's customers actually research their gear.

Almost all of it runs on native Shopify, and that is the point. Tim Bielski, a Shopify Solutions Engineering Manager for the DACH region, called Lupine Lights “one of the strongest Shopify Liquid projects I've seen come out of the DACH ecosystem.”

The migration from our legacy Shopware setup to Shopify was highly complex. Two domains, hundreds of pages, duplicated catalogs, and deep B2B requirements. Commerce-UI managed that complexity with precision. I was impressed by how Commerce-UI translated our rebranding and technical excellence into a new platform. Lupine is built around three points of parity: Made in Germany. 100% Pro. Built for a Lifetime. Commerce-UI brought that philosophy to life online. Today, we have a beautiful shop that is faster and easier to manage, without the operational overhead we had before.
